Betting on the Black Sheep: Family History from an Outsider's Perspective

  • Nashville Public Library 615 Church Street Nashville, TN, 37219 United States (map)

As writers, we often fall outside most circles of belonging, and that can include our families. Partly because the work of being a writer means looking honestly at everything around us, especially the people we are closest to. And, though honesty is an essential part of every narrative, it can be difficult to face. In this workshop, we'll look at how to use the page as a means of speaking honestly about the people and places we come from and how the hard work of telling the truth can ultimately bring us closer to them.

SLANT workshops are intended for students in grades 9 - 12. We meet in StudioNPL on the third floor of the Nashville Public Library. This is a free event open to students from any area, but workshop seating is limited, so please click to RSVP. If you sign up for an event and find that you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that someone else has the opportunity to participate.
